Program Description
The St. Patrick’s Parish Missionary Internship Program is a two-year volunteer program that provides personalized formation and training in the principles of the new evangelization for future ministerial leaders of the Catholic Church. While living in community, the missionaries will participate in a formation plan and mentorship that offers them opportunities to grow personally, spiritually, intellectually, and pastorally. We aim to empower and equip our missionaries with the tools and practical experience they need to discern and fulfill the missionary call of Jesus Christ to make disciples of all nations. Led by the Holy Spirit and under the supervision of their program director and pastor, the missionaries will engage in various parish-based apostolates, primarily with youth, college students, and young adults, to fulfill our parish mission and vision of missionary discipleship. Upon completion of our program, our missionaries will understand how to implement the new evangelization in a parish setting and be prepared to enter professional ministry in Christ’s Church.

Mission
Our mission is twofold— to produce well-formed mission-focused lay ministers who can strategically implement the new evangelization in a parish setting, and to transform our parish culture to one of conversion and missionary discipleship.

Formation
Our formation program will provide missionaries opportunities to grow personally, spiritually, intellectually, and pastorally. Led by our program director and guest speakers, missionaries will participate in weekly formation sessions on various topics from theology and spirituality to evangelization and budgeting. Our aim is to form well-rounded mission-focused ministerial leaders for the Church in Alaska and abroad.

Prayer
The life of a parish missionary is the life of an active contemplative. Missionaries gather daily for personal silent prayer, community prayer, and Mass Monday morning through Friday morning. Through formation sessions, readings, and spiritual direction, our missionaries will discover the spiritual depth and richness of the Church and learn how to cultivate a deep and meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ. With a solid foundation of prayer, our missionaries will proclaim the words of St. Alphonsus Liguori, “I love Jesus Christ and that is why I am on fire with the desire to give Him souls, first of all my own, and then an incalculable number of others.”

Training
Under the supervision of their program director and pastor, the missionaries will be deployed, according to their personal gifts and charisms, into parish-based apostolates to apply their knowledge and understanding of the new evangelization and missionary discipleship.
